How Online Mortgages is paid

The lender pays the home loan specialist. If you ask us to introduce you to one and a loan settles, we may receive a referral fee. Our referral fee is paid by the home loan specialist’s business, not added to your loan. They give you their own disclosure of how they are paid before you decide anything.

Your next step

Using us is optional, and so is using a home loan specialist. For an introduction, the check takes a short time. There is no obligation, and no credit check to enquire.

Start my check

It takes about 90 seconds, then we put you in touch with someone who can talk through your options, and there's no credit check to enquire.

What we do

Online Mortgages is a referral service. We explain how buying a first home works, and if you ask, we pass your details to a home loan specialist. We are not a lender. We do not give financial advice, we do not approve loans, and we do not pick a lender or a product for you.

Who pays whom

  • We don't charge you. There's no charge to use this site or the readiness check.
  • The lender pays the home loan specialist. Home loan specialists are usually paid a commission by the lender. How that works is on the mortgage broker page.
  • We may receive a referral fee. If you are introduced to a home loan specialist through this site and a loan settles, their business may pay us a referral fee. That business pays it, and it is not added to the loan.
  • The fee depends on a loan settling. It is paid after settlement, not for sending your details.

What this means for you

We want you to know about the fee, because it gives us a reason to want people to go ahead. That is why we keep our pages to general information, show where figures come from, and never tell you which lender or loan to choose. The home loan specialist, not us, gives the advice. It is worth asking them how they are paid, whether pay differs between lenders, and what happens if a borrower switches early.

You can say no at any point. You can ask the home loan specialist to stop contacting you, or go direct to a bank, and we do not charge for that. How we look after your details is explained on the privacy page.
